A man who had climbed onto a roof in the Elmside area at night had to be rescued by fire services on Monday 12, November.
At 11.30 pm, neighbours of the Elmside area began to notice a moving figure walking around and lying down on one of the rooftops of the neighbourhood. The man was reported to have been repetitively screaming something that sounded like “Do re miiiii!”
Police cars, ambulances and fire engines were called to the scene.
A negotiator was called to the scene in an attempt to psychologically reassure the man but he would not cooperate.
At 3.30 am, the rescue team used the fire engine’s hydraulic platform to rescue the man who had by then fallen unconscious on top of a chimney.
The police force confirmed that the man called the emergency number before climbing the roof. The man has a history of drug and psychological issues. He also has a history of climbing onto his roof. The last time he did this he stayed on the roof for two days.
